Like all Total War games, Shogun 2 is a turn-based Strategy game, featuring real-time tactics. The original Shogun: Total War game was the first in the Total War series. The first Shogun game was released for Mac OS and Windows in 2003, followed by the port for the Xbox 360 in 2006 and the PlayStation 3 in 2008. The game was subsequently released for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in November 2015. This adds the ability to play on higher resolution (up to 4K) and includes remastered sound, and improved textures.
The game, however, features less combat than its predecessor. Instead of full turn-based combat, the game allows players to pause and manage the battle from a window, and then resume play from that point at a later time. This allows players to issue commands to various units, while others are battling with other units.
After playing the game for a number of hours, the player can go into a strategic view of the battlefield to manage the entire army. In the strategic view, the players can issue commands to their armies by clicking on the appropriate unit on the map and issuing commands. The players can also modify how much time it will take for their units to be made available to do battle in the tactical view.
The game is supported by the scenario editor (AoE editor). Total War: SHOGUN 2 features the following units:

Shogun: Total War is included on the "Ultimate Collector's Edition" of Sengoku BASARA.

The game features voice-acting in Japanese, English, French, and Italian.
Reception
In January 2008, Total War: SHOGUN 2 was awarded the title of PC Gamer US's Best Strategy Game of 2007. The game was also awarded Best Strategy Game of 2008 by GameSpot and by IGN. On December 4, 2007, the New York Times called Total War: SHOGUN 2 the best strategy game ever made. According to GameSpot, "Total War: SHOGUN 2 brings all the thrills of your favorite strategy game to life with an amazing story."
The Xbox 360 version of Total War: SHOGUN 2 has an average review score of 8.3/10 on GameRankings.
